    Fishing in Niagara Falls
Niagara is a fishing paradise. In and around the mighty Niagara River is located some of the best freshwater game fishing in North America.  It's 75 miles of shoreline on Lake Erie, Lake Ontario and the thundering Niagara River itself, provide unequalled sport fishing action.
Lake Ontario is the home of the massive and powerful Chinook or King Salmon. Hook on to one of these monstrous predators of the deep, and their 40+ pounds will test you to the limits. Lake Trout, Brown Trout and Coho Salmon also call this lake there own. These fish jump, run and fight all the way, sometimes taking up to an hour to land. You will also encounter the speedy Steelhead that show up in large numbers and stunning size. This action is very consistent in the Western Basin and off the Niagara Bar well into September at which time these fish move up the Niagara River.
Lake Erie's warmer waters favor smallmouth Bass, perch and of course the Pickerel. During spring, summer and fall these magnificent Walleyes congregate in large schools that stretch for miles. Once located, be prepared for extreme fishing action. After your battle with an 11 lb. Walleye you will know why Lake Erie is called the "Walleye Capital" of the world.
The Niagara River joins these two extraordinary lakes together. In it's fast running depths lurks a  more diversified  number of game fish than the angler can imagine. This river could possibly be one of the best freshwater fisheries in the world,  in that it holds many species of warm and cold water fish. The most exciting action takes place in the fall, when most salmon return to the river to spawn. They are all here, and in large numbers and sizes - Chinook, Coho, Lake Trout, Steelhead, Walleye, Bass, Perch and Muskie.
While many anglers fish from shore, others prefer to get out in a boat.  Small motorboats can be used on the inland rivers and the protected bays of the Great Lakes, but larger craft  are required to navigate into the Lakes.  For this reason the minimum size boat that the Ministry of Natural Resources recommends is 16 to 18 foot.  Charter boat fishing is available on Lake Ontario, Lake Eire and the Niagara River.  Shore fishing along the Niagara River may be done at a number of  access points.  Many of these spots, such as the Queenston area,  will offer the angler the opportunity to hook into a variety of game fish, from Bass and perch to Coho and Lake Trout to a massive King;  ready to take the rod right out of your hands. Shore access can also be found along Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.
Fishing charters are with Sport Fishing Niagara.  We recommend them for their professionalism, enthusiasm and their guarantee that you will catch fish.  The pictures on this site were taken on their boats.
